Sri Lanka celebrates first anniversary of war victory

ID:	230Sri Lanka today staged an extravagant military parade at the Galle Face Green in Colombo to celebrate the first anniversary of the monumental victory over the terrorist war waged by the Tamil Tiger rebels for three decades.
The victory celebrations presided by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa were held at the Galle Face sea front promenade in Colombo with the participation of the armed forces commanders, Defence Secretary, government ministers and other political leaders. The parade displayed over 9,000 troops from the three armed forces, the police, and the Civil Defence Force representing their units involved in the military operations against the LTTE last year. Highlight of the parade was the participation of disabled soldiers in wheel chairs.
Major General Kamal Gunaratna was the Commanding Officer of the entire parade. Commanders of the Wanni, Northern, and Eastern theaters commanded their respective contingents.

Sri Lanka beats Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2010

Size:  2.6 KB Jun 18, Dambulla: Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 126 runs today in the 3rd match of the Asia Cup 2010 in Rangiri Dambulla Stadium after setting a formidable goal of 313 for the visitors to chase.
With half-centuries from Upul Tharanga (54), Captain Kumar Sangakkara (52) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (71) Sri Lanka reached 312/4 threatening the chances of Bangladesh to stay in the tournament.
In reply to the host's score Bangladesh only managed 186 runs in 40.2 overs.
Sri Lanka won against Pakistan in the first match and with victory over Bangladesh earns 9 points to lead the standing in the series. India has earned 5 points so far.
Bangladesh lost the second match of the series to India earlier.

ID:	227An Army soldier who saluted Anoma Fonseka , the wife of Army Commander when she went to pay tribute at an Army memorial situated at Parliament Road, Sri Jayawardenapura had been given orders by the Defense Ministry to be transferred immediately to another place of work in the Army.

Mrs. Fonseka who performed a religious pooja on the 8th ,lighting traditional ‘pahans’ invoking blessings for the release of Gen. Fonseka , had gone to the Army memorial to pay her tribute. It is reported that the soldier who saluted Mrs. Fonseka had been summoned by the Defense Secretary privately and blamed for his action , and later given an official transfer.
